Women Miners Prefer Financial Assistance to Mining Education
HOWEVER, the miners have acknowledged the support they receive from the relevant authorities particularly the material support such as training and expert advice or assistance related to the mining sector.

Tanzanian women miners are of the view that financial assistance such as soft loans and grants is what they need it ‘the most’ to assure their full participation in the extractives, calling upon the relevant Government authorities and financial institutions to focus on issuing the funds rather than organizing mining training programs which they don’t help them to survive in the sector whose operations demand huge investment capital.

The Secretary of Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA) Ms. Salma Kundi said this on Sunday 24th October 2021 when she was responding to interview questions during the 2021 CSO Week Exhibitions held in Dodoma, bringing together hundreds of CSO representatives who are in the Capital City to celebrate this year’s CSO Week under the theme “CSOs contribution to the National Development”.

“Of course, mining education is very important especially in building capacity of miners to benefit from the sector, but it is high time the relevant authorities and financial institutions focused on issuing financial aids to miners particularly ASM in order to support their extraction activities,” said Ms Kundi during the interview.

However, the miners have acknowledged the support they receive from the authorities including the material support such as training and expert advice or assistance related to the mining sector, to mention but a few, saying the facilitation helps them to identify and acquire new economic opportunities in the sector.
